Getting Sponsored to go to BSidesLV, then tagging along to Defcon 27

Early on in May I applied to be sponsored (somewhat) by BSidesLV to go to the conference for free. BSides decided to invite five Veterans breaking into Cybersecurity who show promise and passion for the industry / lifestyle. All I had to do was pay for travel if selected. Well to my surprise, I woke up to an email from the director of the Hire Ground event at BSidesLV saying I was one of five Veterans to be selected to come on out to BSidesLV.

If my memory serves me right, I needed to fill out the form stating what branch of the military I served in (Marines), how long I was in for, what I did in the military, and why I’m passionate about Cybersecurity or why I wanted to go to BSidesLV.

Since BSidesLV is the OG BSides, I am very excited to be attending in Vegas among other aspiring hackers and Infosec professionals. And since I’m already going to be in Vegas, I decided to extend my stay to go to Defcon 27 and see what the hype is all about. Needless to say, I can’t wait.
